What size prime lens would you recommend for someone starting out photography?

If you’re using a crop-sensor body use a 35mm, or if you’re using full frame use a 50mm. Just my opinion though, they’re standard primes so they can be used for pretty much anything. I used a 35mm on a D5000 for more than a year before I moved up a step.
